Floam Sunflowers

So, as mentioned yesterday, I did a Floam design in honor of my giveaway ending and Floam being the winning prize.  I didn't want to post because some other bloggers were doing a Floam day, which I was not a part of and didn't want to confuse matters.  They all did some really cool things.  Loved seeing all the creativity.  I used my favorite Color Club Twiggie which I find I use A LOT for the base coat.  Then topped it with two coats of Floam.  Looks awesome.

Next I freehanded on some sunflowers.  Amazingly, I managed to do both hands and they came out looking almost equally presentable.

I am pleased to announce that the winner of the giveaway, Maribeth is super excited about it so I am glad that it is going to a good home where it can be appreciated.

100 Follower Giveaway WINNER

And the winner is.......Maribeth from Obsessive Cosmetic Hoarders Unite.  Congratulations.

Floam Giveaway Reminder

So today at work, I pondered what I would do tonight for my post.  I was sad to take off my Memorial Nails because I was in love with them.  Then I remembered that tonight was the last day of my 100 follower giveaway.  When I took a peek at my blog to check the exact time it ended, I saw that I had accumulated an extra 40 followers overnight.  After a little research, I was able to determine it was from a blog post by Sarah at The Giveaway Lifestyle. So, thanks Sarah.  Hopefully, I will keep some of them and they will like what it is that I do here.

Anyway, I decided that it would be a nice tribute if I were to use Floam for the first time (I snagged a few bottles during their last sale).  I haven't cracked it open yet. The problem........after I took about 1 and 1/2 hours painting and designing and taking pics, I took a break and starting looking at the blogs I follow.  YIKES!!!  Everyone I follow is doing Floam day.  Where the heck was I?????  I would have totally participated in it but didn't know anyone was doing it.  Now I am in a quandry.  I don't want to look like I am a copy cat but I want to show them off because they look so cool. But, I feel that it is respectful to wait.  I think there is a lot of drama in the nail polish blogging world and I don't want to add to it.  So....I will post in a few days.

Anyways....as I started before my long drawn out sob story....my giveaway ends tonight at 12:00.  Good luck and welcome to all of my new followers.  If you have your own blogs, I look forward to seeing what you have to share with the world too.

Memorial Day

Hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day Weekend.  I had a great day today.  Took the dogs on a long walk by the river.  Took a mid afternoon nap and cooked about three different entrees in large portions.  Enough to last for the week.  That way I can focus on packing for vacation.  Here is another quick holiday post.  I used insta-dri in rapid red and cobalt blue along with Konad white.  Plates were Cheeky 4, 5 and 10 along with BM 02.  Enjoy tomorrow if you have it off and remember what the holiday is for.  Sometimes we forget......

Gelish Ali Baba's Sim Sala Bim

The names of the polishes in the gelish Aurora Effects Collection are super strange.  I purchased this basically because of the photo.  This was back before I actually bought on Amazon and scoured the reviews prior to making my purchase.  This is what the photo looks like on the advertisement....
Looks great. Gelish recommended this polish to be used over another base to get a different "effect".  However, when I looked at the color in the bottle, I thought it looked great on it's own.  I figured it was light on the sparkle and thin on the tint but I could just put on multiple coats and it would look great.  Not really..........

It actually looked almost like dirty water.....with a little bit of sparkle.  I really hated it by itself.  I stamped over the top to hide it and I liked that look enough to make it through about 7 days.  Maybe if I get some time and want a nail painting break, I will try it again over another color.

Memorial Day Nails

Wanted to do something for Memorial Day since I had the time to do it tonight.  Simple stuff.  Base in Color Club White.  Did some stripes with Sally Hansen Insta-dry Rapid red and Cheeky10 and added Rhinestones in blue.  Came out cute. I have been at a conference for three days.  I am actually looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.  Then off for a three day weekend.  Hopefully with good weather.

Sally Hansen Gem Crush Cha-Ching

Everytime I see or hear Sally Hansen Gem Crush, I picture a factory of elves putting gemstones into machines and then pouring the glittery goodness into miniature bottles.  A little crazy?  Yes, but I just can't get enough of it.  I love how it looks in the bottle and it is so darn blingy on my nails.  Cha-Ching is a gorgeous red with larger silver glitter mixed in.  It is jam packed and needed two coats....barely to cover.  I decided to wear it with an accent nail in China Glaze Platinum Silver.  Stamped with something leopardy (don't remember which-probably Konad) and used a little Sally Hansen insta-dry for the spots.  Love, love , love how it came out.  Mad, mad, mad that it chipped in less than 24 hours.

AWARDS GALORE

Thanks to my good friends at Nailpocalypse and Rainbow Nails, I have been awarded multiple times.  They are both amazing and I love following their blogs also it truly could not have come from two kinder and more talented people.  I spent quite some time deciding on my own nominations and I will get to them at the end but first, the awards.....

I started this blog on February 20, 2012

2. What are the 1-2 reasons why you started blogging?
I had finally stopped biting my nails and started getting into painting them for the first time really.  I didn't even know what a blog was so I googled it and found blogger.  I had no idea what to blog about and since I had just started painting my nails, I thought, why not?
3. What types of blogs do you like to follow/read?
Nail art blogs mostly. I try to steer clear of food blogs because they make me hungry.

4. What is one thing you would like to improve as a blogger/ on your blog?
I feel like I improve every day and the truth is that the blogging community just makes me better.

1- Post the link to who gave you the award.

3- Share 7 random things about yourself.
4- Pass it on to 10 bloggers and inform them.

The Questions are -
1. Favourite song?

The Liebster Award is meant to support blogs with 300 or less followers. Can can be given to any blogger you wish who meets that criteria.

Pass on the award to other bloggers:
I believe Sunshine Blog Award is the prize awarded to “bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere”.
So, in the interest of making this simple, I am passing all four awards on to the following bloggers.  Now, for the record, if you are not into this award thing and want to ignore it....go right ahead.  You will not offend me in the least.  It is not for everybody and that is totally cool.  I like to share more about myself and I like to acknowledge other bloggers who do good things.  So here are my nominations:
Sarah from All this Polish.  She does such perfect, clean work.  I am always amazed.  She participated in the April Showers bring May Flowers Challenge and the April Showers mani was amazing.
Alyson from Beads.Nails.Food. She finally caved and started a blog.  You should all be grateful.  Now quick go and check out the link and pin the butterfly picture so you will not be the only one left on Pinterest without it.
Jem at Brush up and Polish. What can I say?  It is Shellac that made my nails get longer and prevented me from biting them.  Buying my own CND light put me on the right path and Jem taught me you can actually mix the two together.  If you are a gel person...check her stuff out.
Caitt from Caitt's Nails.  I am hoping that companies latch on to her because she is a fantastic swatcher.  I really cared more about design when I started out but over time I am learning that the reviews of polish are invaluable so you don't waste good money on items that don't present like they do in the bottle.  Caitt gives a great review and her blog has convinced me to make a purchase or two.
Ryan from Dream a Little Dream of Polish.  You literally need to stop reading for a minute and check out her blog.  AMAZING.  Love the inspiration pictures.  She is great at photo processing.  I literally can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
Erin and "Riley" from Erin's Beauty Bumbles.  This link to her gradient nails is fantastic.  She is a dog lover, you can tell immediately from her banner and she is super supportive of the blogging community.
Jewli from Fanning the Fumes. She does some really cool freehand flowers and I am in love with her profile pic on her blog.  Another dog lover.  Yeah!!!!
Tess from Football and Fingernails.  Tess also did the ASBMF's Challenge and offers some great mani's.  The link here was for her spun sugar design that I LOVE.  She is super sweet and you should check her out.
Margaret from Holy Manicures. I could not have come up with a better name because Holy Crap her stuff is good.  She is going to be someone to watch.  AMAZING!!!  Hard to pick just one thing to link to.  And....her profile says she is 18.  I didn't not have a tenth of her talent at 18.  I still don't.
Brianna from Welcome to Brianna's World.  Brianna has to be the single most kindest, sweetest person on the planet.  If I post something that I know sucks and I will not get much in the way of comments...Brianna always finds something nice to say.  You have to check her out and show your support because she will pay it forward ten fold.

Water Marble Color Club Sparkle And Soar

When I saw the display of Color Clubs in all those bright shimmers for summer, I wanted to buy the set.  A few weeks ago I settled on two.  I was having buyer's remorse ever since.  I went back and bought the rest today.  I am now on a buyer's "time out" (well right after my amazon order gets here), until I have at least used each newly purchased polishes one time.  Even if I have to do it on someone else's fingers.

I love the look of water marbling.  When it is done right, it looks fantastic but it is just so hard to get it to look good.  I have been playing around a bit and I am starting to get better at it.  So, when I got the Color Club shimmers, it made me wonder.....would they work in a water marble?  And the answer is.....YES!!!  This is Revlon Tangerine, Finger Paints Tangerine Tint and Color Club Sparkle and Soar.

Unfortunately, few people actually got to see it live because I can't get away with wearing something like this at work.  It did look amazing, and a great combo for summer.  I am heading to Cape Cod in two weeks and looking forward to a relaxing vacation.  Thankfully we rented an SUV because I am contemplating taking quite a few items on vacation from my nail collection.  Great opportunity to work on some designs that I can use when I don't have time.

Summer Sunset Nails

This weekend....finally, we are going to have some summer weather in upstate NY.  My favorite summer place is Lake George.  I spent many summers up on the lake watching the sunset.  So, inspired by that memory.....

The base is Art You Blue by Finger Paints.  I love the mountains starting to cover the sun and the reflection of the sun on the water.  Hope everyone enjoys their weekend wherever they are from.  Another quick reminder that I am doing a giveaway, including FLOAM!!!!  Check it out here.

China Glaze Flying Dragon and Black Eyed Susans

A few weeks ago I purchased China Glaze Flying Dragon.  This is a purpleish base with pink and blue shimmer.  Loved it in the bottle but was purplexed with it on my nails.  It went on weird and dried super quick.  Needed three coats to even out the color because the shimmer seemed to stick in certain places.  I didn't absolutely love the color as much as I like it in the bottle.  I decided to paint over it with some basic flowers using a dotting tool.  Might as well go bright, so I went with one of my favs....black eyed susans.  Love this for summer.

Spun Sugar???....Giveaway

I have seen so many of these manicures online and they are called a dozen different things, draped polish, striped polish, polish fibers, I can't remember them all.  I really wish I knew who first created it and that they would give an official name to it.  The one name I like the best....hand's down, is spun sugar.  It reminds me of how sugar is melted down and beomes stringy like making cotton candy.

It takes time but it is a really pretty effect in the end.  I really like the super fine strands but this is hard to accomplish without a bit of patience.  I decided that I would go a step beyone the basic and attempt a gradient.  I used OPI Planks a lot for the base and Revlon Impulsive, Milani Violet Dash and Orly Lollipop.  I like the pic above the best.  The picture blow shows the rest of the hand but needed more touchups and my cuticles are not in great shape.  Too late now....
I wish I had taken more pictures once I cleaned everything up and moisturized but I forgot.  Oh well, I will probably be trying this again sometime because I do like the look.  Maybe someday on the patio in the summer with a sangria.

Don't forget to enter to be in my 100 follower giveaway.  Floam is at stake here!!!!  International followers welcome.

CG Turned up Turquoise with flowers

Just wanted to do something a bit summery since it is so warm and sunny out today.  I am in love right now with China Glaze's Turned up Turquoise from the neon collection.  the only problem is that it does not photograph well.  the pictures looks like a seafoam green.  no matter what light I used.

The first pic was under indoor lighting and the second in sunlight.  I like the way it looks in the pictures also but in person it is a lot better.  Don't forget to register for my giveaway here.  You have until May 30th.

100 Follower Giveaway-

Wow, I remember when I had two followers and couldn't believe they cared what I did.  What an amazing community of people.  Love being a part of it and I love the inspiration I get from it every day.  A while back I had signed up to be on the e-mail list for Floam.  Everyone had it and swatched it.  So....I wanted it!!!  With my recent back problems, I have not slept well.  So, a few weeks ago, I woke up in the middle of the night, leaned over to check the iphone and realized that the window of opportunity had opened.  The website kept crashing and people had trouble getting in but I was able to swoop in and pick up two bottles.  So, I am adding it here in the giveaway.  Many of you have already had it forever but those who do not....here is your chance to score.  Oh, and I am also including China Glaze Polarized and Color Club's Hot Like Lava (great for stamping)

You can begin entering at midnight and you have until May 30, 2012 to enter.  You must be a follower through GFC and will need to give your GFC name.  International followers are welcome.  I know that the shipping is pricey and it may take some time to reach you but I follow some international blogs that have given me so much inspiration and those bloggers have left me some very nice comments too.

Matching nails & tops-Friday/Polka Dots

I cant help myself, I love polka dots.  Especially different sized dots.  Friday's top I have had for ever and love it.  I didn't have any beige polish.  Should I be ashamed to say that?  I have about ten shades of pale pink, white and grey but no beige.  I had to improvise but in person, it looked like a perfect match.

I think you know what I will be doing today......buying some beige polish!!!

Matching nails & tops-Thursday-Holo/stamping

I have seen so many Layla Hologram polishes online, I was dying to get one.  Soooo pricey!!  I settled on Ocean Rush and I thought that it matched Thursday's top really well.  I found a stamp to go with it of course.

They looked great together.  Only one problem....the holo peels terribly.  The tips were coming off by the time I got to work.  I had to wrap the ends with a top coat once I got there so I didn't lose the polish before anyone else could see it.

Matching nails and top-Wednesday/Needle Marbling

With a bad back and having difficulty sitting for long periods of time, I was not able to do a water marbling but I have seen plenty of pin marbling and thought it looked cool so Wednesday's blouse this week gave me a reason to try it out. The base was done in Savvy Chrome and the purple is Revlon's Impulsive.

The photo of the shirt looks like the purple is a variation but the actual purple on my nails was much deeper.

I think that my thumbnail came out the best.  Love this look.  So easy, definitely going to do it again.

Matching nails & tops-Tuesday/Minnie

So, continuing with my review of this weeks outfits and mani's.......to recap quickly, my back is out of whack, I have limited mobility so I have been entertaining myself with matching my mani's to my tops for the week.  This past Tuesday I was going to wear polka dots, black and white.  I didn't want to just do something that simple.  The blouse has a bow on the front so I thought about Minnie Mouse with a bow in her hair and her polka dots.  So here is the blouse and the nails.  Excuse my super dry skin.  I did moisturize the heck out of my hands and cuticles after this picture was taken.

Matching Nails & Tops-Monday/Green

I threw my back out last week and so I have been pretty much confined to my home.  I can barely get in and out of a car because sitting is most painful.  I still have managed to go to work (mainly because I can walk there) but when I come home....boredom hits.  No nail art for me, or limited amounts because I prety much have to lie down while doing it.  So, this week, I painted my nails every night since I nothing else to do.  I posted on this mani earlier in the week that I did using Butter London's Dosh.  I did it purposely to match a shirt I was going to wear the next day.  I then continued this trend every day so far this week.  The thought never occurred to me to photo the blouse as the inspiration and post them together until this morning.....

I was reading a post by Jackie from Mema's Manis and she did a cute stamping design.  Now, that's nothing new, she does regular posts of cute stamping mani's.  However, this time she ended with saying that she was matching her scrub top she planned on wearing the next day.  That left me to wonder......what does the scrub top look like?

It was then I decided to do this series.  I tend to purchase a lot of poly-spandex shirts and patterns.  My standard "uniform" is black pants with a patterned top.  I hate nylons and ironing.  So here is another look at the Butter London I already posted with the shirt that was the inspiration.  Thanks Jackie!!!  I will try and squeeze in Tuesday's when I get home today but I still have to take pictures of the blouse.

My First Butter London....Jury is still out.

I recently had the opportunity to go to NYC with family.  We stayed in Brooklyn but toured around Manhatten for the weekend.  I was on a mission. That mission was to find a Ricky's and buy polish.  Sadly, there was not this tremendous selection that I had hoped for.  There was, however, Butter London.  This is not an item that you can find readily in upstate NY.  I was excited but their selection of Butter Londons was huge and I had a tough time making a decision.  I finally went with Dosh because it was so different than anything else I owned.  Pricey but everyone LOVES Butter Londons.  I never seem to read a bad review.  It always seems to go on flawlessly.  So, here is my final product.  As usual, I forgot to take a picture before stamping.

I stamped over the top with Konad's m57 and Mattese Elite Solid Gold.  I wanted a snakeskin effect but the polish stamped very lightly so it looks more like a gold shimmer.  My problem was that the polish just didn't apply well.  It went on thick in some spots and thin in others.  I have never seen anyone else have this problem.  Anyway, I am happy with the color and the final product.

Spring....A Pug's Favorite Time of Year

You know it's spring when my pugs are dying to get out onto the patio.  They can sit on the perch for hours entertaining themselves.  Barking at stuff and soaking up the sun.

ROXY PUG

ELMER PUG

Sorry to all the nail people who are not into dogs.  I have noticed a lot of people I follow are cat lovers (I love cats too).  I just wanted to share.  :)

ASBMF #14-Spring Choice

The final installment in the April Showers Bring May Flowers Challenge.  I have squeezed in eveything in a short amount of time here at the end because I started this challenge and another spring challenge at the same time thinking it would keep me busy.  It was a little too much.  I am committed to doing the Purple Crumpet Fairy Summer Challenge because I LOVE all of the items on this list.  I just couldn't resist.  But I needed some time to prepare in advance because the posts are so close together and sometimes life gets in the way of polish.  So, for the final item on this challenge....I give you....my first fairly decent water marble.

I have done two others prior to this which are not posted because there is no photographic evidence of them.  They sucked.  It was a catastrophy.  I am constantly amazed at how awesome some of them come out.  I am still not thrilled but it is pretty good compared to my others.  Next time around...I have to do a basecoat.  In some of the areas, you can see the color gets thin.  For this, I used Color Club's Pink Satina and Jackie Oh and China Glaze's Turned up Turquoise from their neon collection.  I even wore it to work like this, even though I generally try to stay conservative.
This challenge was created by the lovely Hannah from Polished Prisms. You can check out the group's facebook page to see all the designs in one spot but please take the time to see what the other ladies have done along with their blogs here also...........

ASBMF #13-Newspaper Gal

Another first for me.  Never have I transferred newsprint onto my nails.  Many times I have transferred it onto silly putty but that was many, many years ago.  I choose to use Revlon's Charming as my base color.  I guess I thought it would go nice with the newsprint.  I think it looked pretty good.

If I did it again, it would come out much better since I was learning as I went along.  I really wanted to do a few nails over but I didn't have time to repaint them.  As I was writing this blog post, it occurred to me that I probably could have just wiped the lettering off with rubbing alcohol and redid them but it is too late now.  The fun part of this challenge for me?  I used the classified ads.  More specifically, a classified ad that I wrote and submitted for an employment at my agency where I work.  You can just about see the name of my agency on the thumb.  That really made my day.  I don't think I will be doing this technique again but I am glad I know about it because I have shared it with tons of mom's at my work.  I am sure they will be trying it out at home with their kids and I just think that is the best!!!!

This challenge was created by the lovely Hannah from Polished Prisms. You can check out the group's facebook page to see all the designs in one spot but please take the time to see what the other ladies have done along with their blogs here also...........

Avenger Nails

Taking a brief pause from the challenge world to do a little nail art.  My cousin's husband Jim is enthusiastically awaiting the Avengers movie.  Since my recent NYC trip was better due to his expertise in navigating the subway, I decided to do a little homage to him and his interest.  Let the record reflect, I did not know anything about the Avengers.  I still don't know much except what the characters look like.  So her is from thumb to pinky, The "A" from the Avengers logo, Iron Man's hand with repulser, The Hulk, Thor's Mjolnir and Captain America's suit???  Can we tell I am out of my league here???

If you are into The Avengers like my cousin-in-law, hope you enjoy the film.  I just hope you don't dress up like he does.  No offense but when your like 40??  Hehehe.

ASBMF Challenge #12- May Flowers

I recently bought Smoldering from Revlon and loved how it looked in the bottle.  Pretty shimmer.  I decided to use it as a base for my flowers.

For the flowers, I used Color Club Neon Collection.  My first attempt at freehand flowers.  I learned some tips for next time.  Overall I think it came out pretty.

This challenge was created by the lovely Hannah from Polished Prisms. You can check out the group's facebook page to see all the designs in one spot but please take the time to see what the other ladies have done along with their blogs here also...........
